Here's a 10 minute 'How To' video of me applying rivets to a 1/4 scale Sea Fury. I hate the sound of my own voice on video, so subtitles only I'm afraid! Perhaps next time.

Once the fuselage has a good coat of primer, it is ready to be marked out for the former and stringer positions. Rivets are applied with a syringe with a fine tip, filled with PVA woodworking glue. The thicker the glue, the better. Cheaper PVA is often watered down and so doesn't hold its shape once applied. Slight pressure is applied to the syringe which gives a slow steady flow to the glue.

Spacing is done by eye, with a pencil line to follow marking the stringer or former position. Spacing comes with practice, but you can make it a little easier for yourself by applying a rivet at each end of a line, and then one in the centre. Then keep halving the distances between the rivets until you end up with a spacing that suits the scale of the model.

Once the PVA has dried, the model is given an undercoat of silver paint. Any weathering and wear on the rivets and panel lines through the top coat of paint will reveal what appears to be natural metal below.

Now that the Mushroom Head rivets are done, and the silver paint dry, the fuselage is ready to be marked out for the flush rivets.
